Always open should mean open to everyone.

Last updated: November 1, 2026. This accessibility statement covers 8kava.com and the 8Kava devices people buy from. Our target for the website is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. For devices, we design reach, contrast, sound and payment so more people can shop without help, and we tell you where the hardware still falls short.

Four commitments

WCAG 2.2 AA for the website

We design, build and test 8kava.com against WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and we fix failures we find or you report.

Reachable devices

Tap readers, handles and controls are designed for the reach ranges in U.S. accessibility standards, and we plan placement with the host.

Sight and sound together

Device status is designed to be both shown and heard, so no step of a purchase depends on a single sense.

An app alternative

Shoppers can pay through the Kava app or a QR code, using their own phone's screen reader, magnification and settings.

A2

The website

Our target. We aim for 8kava.com to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG explains how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including people who are blind or have low vision, people who are deaf or hard of hearing, and people with motor, cognitive or speech disabilities.

What we build to.

  • Structure. Pages use real headings, landmarks and lists so screen readers can move through them, and a skip link leads to the main content.
  • Keyboard. Navigation, menus, forms, FAQ panels and the ROI calculator are designed to work with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Contrast. Our palette includes darker accent shades reserved for text on light backgrounds, chosen to meet AA contrast. Bright amber and mint are used for highlights and large elements, not small text on light backgrounds.
  • Images. Every illustration has a text alternative, and each carries a caption that states its idea in words, so the point of an image never depends on seeing it.
  • Motion. Animation is slow and purposeful, and all of it is turned off when your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Decoration. Planogram slot codes and the hover detection boxes on illustrations are decorative. The information they echo is always available as text.
  • Forms. Fields have visible labels, errors are described in text, and nothing relies on color alone.

How we check. We use automated testing during development, manual keyboard-only reviews and screen-reader checks on key pages and components, and we re-test pages when they change.

A3

Known limitations

We'd rather tell you where we fall short than claim perfection.

  • The ROI calculator is the most complex component on the site. If any part of it doesn't work with your assistive technology, email support@8kava.com with your figures, and we'll run the estimate with you and send the results in a format that works for you.
  • Illustrations are detailed artwork. Their text alternatives describe what's shown and their captions carry the idea, but fine visual detail isn't fully described.
  • Documents we send, such as spec sheets, quotes and agreements, may not yet meet the same standard as our web pages. Ask, and we'll provide an accessible version or the same content in another format.
  • Third-party tools, such as scheduling or payment pages run by other companies, are outside our direct control. We choose providers with accessibility in mind and will help you complete any task they block.

How we design 8Kava hardware for more people

Device accessibility depends on the hardware and on where it's installed. These are our design targets and the installation guidance we give location hosts and field technicians.

Reach and approach

Operable parts
Tap readers, handles, touchscreen controls and locker doors designed to sit within the 15–48 in reach range used in the 2010 ADA Standards
Clear floor space
A clear 30 × 48 in space in front of each device, checked during installation
Shelves
Planogram guidance keeps at least one facing of every item on a shelf within reach

Seeing

Status
Door, payment and receipt status shown with light and on-screen messages, never by color alone
Screens
10.1 in door display on Kava Cooler, 21.5 in touchscreen on Kava Vend, 22 in touchscreen on Kava Kiosk, with large, high-contrast prices and prompts
Products
LED-lit interiors, so items can be seen clearly before paying

Hearing

Audio cues
Tones confirm key steps, such as payment accepted and door released, alongside visual signals
No audio-only steps
Every prompt that sounds is also shown

Paying and access

Payment options
EMV contactless cards, mobile wallets, the Kava app or QR, employee badges and payroll deduct
App alternative
Start and pay for a purchase from your own phone, with its screen reader and magnification
Lockers
Open by code, QR, badge or app, so a keypad is never the only way in
B1Naming the trade-off

Our cooler is 80 inches tall. Not every shelf is within reach.

Kava Cooler stands 80 inches high with 5 adjustable shelves. The top of that cabinet is well above the 48-inch high-reach limit, so a shopper who is seated, or of shorter stature, can't reach every shelf. We won't pretend otherwise.

What we do about it: the tap reader, handle and display are designed to sit within reach; shelves are set at installation with reach in mind; and our planogram guidance puts at least one facing of every item on a reachable shelf, with heavier drinks kept low. Where a host has specific accessibility requirements, we help choose the format and placement, including open micro-market shelving with a Kava Kiosk, where the host sets the shelf heights.

  • Operable parts designed for the 15–48 in reach range.
  • Adjustable shelves, set for reach at installation.
  • At least one facing of every item within reach.

Feedback and help

Tell us about any barrier, on the website or at a device. We read every report, and a person replies.

  • Email: support@8kava.com. Support is staffed 24/7/365.
  • Phone: (678) 451-2033.
  • Mail: 8Kava Labs LLC, Attn: Accessibility, 2821 Remington Street, Suite 101, Fort Collins, CO 80525.

What helps us fix it fast. For the website: the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you use. For a device: where it is (the building and the spot), what happened and roughly when. If a device stopped you from buying something, we treat it as a service issue and route it to the operator or field team responsible for that device.

Alternative formats. We can send any content from this site, including pricing, specifications and our legal pages, by email in plain text or another format that works for you.

B3

Technical details, scope and status

Technologies we rely on. The website relies on HTML, CSS, WAI-ARIA and JavaScript. It's designed to work with current versions of major browsers and the assistive technologies commonly used with them, including screen readers, screen magnifiers, speech recognition and switch access.

Scope. This statement covers 8kava.com and the design of 8Kava hardware. Accessibility at a specific location also depends on how a device is installed, the space around it and the host's own facilities. Operators and location hosts are responsible for the sites they run; we provide the guidance and support to help them get it right.

Procurement. Public agencies and other organizations that need accessibility documentation for a purchase can request it from vending@8kava.com as part of a quote. Our government and public sector page covers procurement in more detail.

Status. We consider the website partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA: some content may not yet fully conform. We're working toward full conformance and will update this statement as we go. How we handle personal information you send us is covered in our privacy policy.

Think about itSlot B4

Who is your store's shortest customer?

Try buying from your own breakroom the hard way: sitting in a chair, with your phone's screen reader on, or with your eyes closed until you hear the door release. Many barriers are quick to find and cheap to fix, sometimes with nothing more than a planogram change. Which shelf would you move first?

C1FAQ

Accessibility questions

Is the website fully WCAG 2.2 AA conformant?

Not yet in every detail, and we'd rather say so. AA is our target, we build and test against it, and we treat reported issues as priority fixes. The known limitations above are where we're still working.

Are 8Kava devices ADA compliant?

Compliance depends on the installation as much as the device: where it stands, the space around it and how it's stocked. We design operable parts for standard reach ranges and check clear floor space at installation, but we don't describe a device as compliant on its own. Our deployment team plans placement with you.

Can I buy without using the touchscreen?

Yes. On a Kava Cooler, you tap a card, phone or badge, open the door and take your items; the receipt is finalized within 10 seconds of the door closing. You can also pay through the Kava app or a QR code on your own phone. See Kava Cooler and Payments & Loyalty.

How do I report a problem with a specific device?

Email support@8kava.com with the location and what happened. Support runs 24/7/365, and we'll route the issue to the operator or field technician responsible for that device.
