Real food at 4 a.m., and a temperature log nobody wrote by hand.

8Kava's hospital vending solutions put fresh meals on every floor cluster around the clock. Smart coolers lock themselves if food gets warm, heated lockers hold hot dinners for staff who can't leave the unit, and every temperature reading lands in an audit-ready log.

A1What a hospital needs

What a hospital asks of unattended food

Temperatures you can prove

Kava Cooler holds 33–41 °F, in line with the FDA Food Code's 41 °F cold-holding limit for TCS foods. If the inside stays above 41 °F for 30 minutes, the door locks and an alert goes out.

Food where the shift is

A cooler on each floor cluster means a nurse can eat without leaving the unit. The door releases in under a second after a tap.

Staff pay their way

Badge and payroll deduct for employees, with optional night-shift meal subsidies. Visitors pay with contactless cards or mobile wallets.

Healthier picks, priced to win

Dynamic Pricing can make the grain bowl cheaper than the candy bar, in support of the healthy-food standards many hospitals set for themselves.

Less shrink, no attendant

Locking doors and checkout by vision and weight cut shrink by 62% compared with open honor-system markets.

Privacy near patients

Recognition runs on the device and looks at products, not people. No images of faces are stored or sent.

A4Hot meal lockers

Dinner that waits for the nurse, not the other way around.

The cafeteria's last hot meal goes out at close, and people on a 7-to-7 shift miss it every night. Kava Lockers LX fix the timing. The kitchen cooks before close and loads plated meals into heated compartments held at 140–165 °F, or salads into refrigerated ones at 35–40 °F. Staff order ahead and collect with a code, QR, badge or the app whenever their break actually comes.

Per-compartment door sensors and occupancy detection tell the kitchen what's been picked up and what's still waiting, so tomorrow's production can match tonight's pickups.

  • Modules of 6, 12 or 18 compartments, mixing heated, refrigerated and ambient.
  • A base bank of 18 compartments is $7,400, or $229 a month on VaaS.
  • Uncollected meals show up in the log before they become waste.

B1Temperature excursion

When a cooler runs warm at 2 a.m.

An example of how Kava OS handles a temperature excursion, start to finish.

  1. 2:14 a.m.

    The temperature passes 41 °F

A door left ajar after a busy hour lets warm air in. Fleet Command records the reading and starts a 30-minute clock.

  2. 2:44 a.m.

    The cooler locks itself

Thirty minutes above 41 °F: the door locks, sales stop and the alert reaches your on-call contact and the 8Kava NOC.

  3. Within 4 hours

    Remote response

For a critical device-down event, the NOC's remote response target is 4 hours, with next-business-day on-site service in served metros.

  4. 6:00 a.m.

    Food service decides

Your team reviews the logged readings and keeps or discards product according to your own food-safety plan.

  5. Audit day

    Export the record

Every reading, lock event and response is already in the log. Nobody reconstructs a night from memory.

Map where your people are at 4 a.m. Now map the food.

Most hospital food programs are planned around the cafeteria's hours and patched with a vending machine for everyone else. Night nurses notice. So do residents on call, environmental services crews and families waiting in the ED. If you laid those two maps over each other, how far would your night staff have to walk for a real meal?

C1FAQ

Hospital vending FAQ

Does a smart cooler meet our food-safety requirements?

Kava Cooler holds 33–41 °F, logs temperature automatically and locks itself if the inside stays above 41 °F for 30 minutes, which supports the FDA Food Code's cold-holding limit for TCS foods. Your health department and your own food-safety plan still set the rules; we give you the records they ask for. Our temperature compliance guide covers the details.

Can staff charge meals to payroll or use a meal subsidy?

Yes. Badge checkout with payroll deduct runs through connectors for Workday, ADP and UKG. Subsidy rules can target night shift, specific units or specific items, and they apply automatically at checkout.

Who restocks the coolers overnight?

Usually nobody. Forecasting sizes each cooler to carry its floor through the night, and restocks run on a schedule that suits your food service team or operator. Managed Operations can take restocking off your team entirely.

Will the coolers connect to our hospital network?

They don't have to. Each Kava Cooler has built-in LTE Cat-4, with Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet available if IT prefers. If the connection drops, it keeps selling and buffers up to 72 hours of transactions.

Can we start with one building?

Yes. A program of up to 10 coolers typically goes live 10 business days after signing, and Kava OS Pro comes with a 30-day free trial on up to 10 devices.
