Kava Kiosk K1

A banana doesn't have a barcode. This kiosk doesn't need one.

Kava Kiosk K1 is a micro market kiosk for open-shelf breakrooms. It scans barcodes like any self-checkout, and it recognizes unpackaged items such as fruit and bakery by sight, on the shelves and fixtures you already have.

A1The problem with loose items

The fruit bowl is where micro-markets lose money.

Packaged items are easy: scan the barcode and move on. Loose fruit, pastries and bakery are where self-checkout gets awkward. Shoppers hunt through a picture menu, choose the wrong item, or give up and walk off with the apple. Operators respond by stocking only wrapped items, and the market gets a little less fresh every month.

Kava Kiosk K1 adds vision recognition to the barcode scanner. Set a croissant on the scan area and the kiosk sees a croissant, not a "bakery item, choose one" button. Checkout stays quick, the fresh assortment stays on the shelf, and the sales data finally records what actually sold.

  • Barcode scanning for packaged items.
  • Vision recognition for unpackaged fruit and bakery.
  • Every sale recorded by SKU, loose items included.

Four moves at the kiosk

  1. Set items down

Barcoded items scan as usual. Loose fruit or a pastry goes on the scan area, where the camera recognizes it.

  2. Check the basket

The 22" touchscreen shows the basket line by line, so a mistake is caught before payment, not after.

  3. Pay

Shoppers pay with the methods the site enables in Payments & Loyalty, including employer subsidies where they apply.

  4. Inventory updates

Each item decrements stock by SKU in Kava OS, which feeds forecasts and the next pick list.

A3Fits what you have

Keep the shelves. Replace the checkout.

Your fixtures stay

K1 works with existing micro-market fixtures. The shelving and fridges you already bought keep their jobs.

Pairs with Kava Cooler

Put meals in a locking Kava Cooler and snacks on open shelves. Both report to one inventory and one sales ledger.

Countertop or pedestal

Mount it on a counter at a natural pinch point, or on a pedestal where there isn't one.

Data that keeps up

Sales by SKU feed forecasting, so the fruit you sell out of by 10 a.m. arrives in bigger numbers.

Many breakrooms need both: open shelves and a K1 for snacks and fruit, and a locking cooler for meals.

Who does your checkout design trust?

Open shelves say "we trust you." Locking doors say "we trust the sensors." Neither is wrong; the mistake is choosing without measuring. If your shrink is low and your crowd is stable, an open market with a quick kiosk is the friendliest store you can build. If you don't know your shrink, start with where shrink comes from before you spend on fixtures.

C2FAQ

Micro market kiosk questions

Which unpackaged items can the kiosk recognize?

K1 is built for the loose items micro-markets actually sell, such as fruit and bakery. During setup, the market's loose items are added to its catalog in Kava OS so the kiosk knows what to expect. Barcoded items always scan as usual.

Can I keep my current micro-market fixtures?

Yes. K1 works with existing micro-market fixtures, open shelving and Kava Coolers. Often the checkout is the only thing that changes.

Countertop or pedestal: which should I choose?

Countertop if there's a counter at a natural pinch point near the exit. Pedestal if there isn't, or if a counter queue would spill into a walkway. Site Intelligence recommends placement from how people actually move through the room.

What does it cost?

$2,900 to buy, plus Kava OS from $19 per device per month. Or $99 per month on a 36-month VaaS term that includes Kava OS Pro and service. Full details on pricing.
