Kava Cooler C2 / C2-XL
Tap, open, take. The cooler does the counting.
Kava Cooler is a smart cooler for business that sells fresh food around the clock without a cashier or an honor box. Edge cameras see what moved, per-shelf load cells confirm what left, and the receipt lands within 10 seconds of the door closing.
- door release after tap
- < 1 sdoor release after tap
- receipt after the door closes
- ≤ 10 sreceipt after the door closes

- 41 °Ffood-safety auto-lock threshold

Four moves, about as long as it takes to read this
Tap to open
Tap a card, phone or badge, or scan the Kava app QR code at the door. The electromagnetic lock releases in under 1 second.
Take what you want
Take one item or six. Put one back. Cameras track what moves, and load cells with ±2 g resolution register what leaves each shelf.
Close the door
Closing the door ends the session. Vision and weight are fused on the cooler's own neural processor, so nothing waits on the network.
Get the receipt
The charge is finalized and the receipt sent within 10 seconds of close. Disputes are rare because two sensors had to agree first.
If it isn't cold, it isn't for sale.
Fresh food is the reason to buy a smart cooler and the reason to worry about one. Kava Cooler holds 33–41 °F and logs its internal temperature continuously. If that temperature stays above 41 °F for 30 minutes, the door locks itself and an alert goes out.
The 30-minute window ignores a door held open during a restock but catches a failing compressor or a tripped breaker in the middle of the night. Nobody has to remember to check, and nobody buys a sandwich that sat warm until dawn. Because the log is kept automatically, the temperature record a food-safety audit asks for already exists.
- Auto-lock and alert after 30 minutes above 41 °F.
- Continuous temperature log, ready for audits.
- Expiry-aware markdowns sell short-dated items before they become waste.

Why two witnesses beat one
Cameras see the motion
4 edge cameras in the C2, 6 in the C2-XL, watch which product left which lane. Recognition runs on the device, not in a data center.
Scales confirm the mass
Every shelf has load cells with ±2 g resolution. A 12 oz can and a 16 oz can look alike from above; they don't weigh alike.
Restocks reconcile themselves
When a restocker opens the door, the cooler records what went in by shelf, so inventory stays honest without a clipboard. More in Vision AI.
Faces stay out of it
Recognition looks at products. No images of faces are stored or sent, and nothing about the shopper's appearance is needed to bill them correctly.

What a locking, counting cooler changes
Night shift used to eat from a bag of chips at 3 a.m. Now they eat a real meal, and I get an audit-ready temperature log without anyone touching a clipboard.

Payments & Loyalty
Badges, payroll deduct and employer subsidies, configured once.
Retail Media
The 10.1" door display sells campaigns measured against purchases.
Forecasting
Item-level forecasts turn into pick lists before the van loads.
What is your honor box costing you, really?
An open shelf feels cheap because nobody invoices you for what walks away. Count it anyway: take a month of restock records, subtract a month of sales, and look at the gap. Sites that move from honor-system shelves to locking Kava Coolers see shrink fall 62%. Would a door that counts have paid for itself at your site already?
Smart cooler questions
What if someone picks up an item and puts it back?
They aren't charged for it. The load cell sees the weight leave and return, and the cameras see the item go back on the shelf. The shopper pays only for what is gone when the door closes.
What happens when the internet goes down?
The cooler keeps selling. Recognition runs on the device, and transactions are buffered for up to 72 hours, then synced when LTE, Wi-Fi or Ethernet comes back. With three network paths, a full outage is rare to begin with.
Can employees pay with a badge or payroll deduct?
Yes. Kava Cooler accepts EMV contactless cards, mobile wallets, the Kava app or QR code, employee badges and payroll deduct. Employer subsidies are set up in Payments & Loyalty.
Is a C2 enough, or do we need the C2-XL?
Decide from sell-through, not headcount. If a C2 holding up to 240 items empties before the next restock, the C2-XL doubles capacity to 480 items in a 54-inch footprint. Kava OS shows when each shelf runs out, so the upgrade decision is a chart rather than a guess.
What does the site need to provide?
Floor space, a standard 115 V outlet, and either network access or permission to use the built-in LTE. During Site Intelligence we check the outlet, the signal and every doorway between the dock and the spot.
